Gravity takes a toll on our bodies every day, constantly straining our structure and slowly dragging our body into misalignment. This problem is usually not noticed (or perhaps is even considered to be normal) until some sports activity or physical labor aggravates the problem enough to cause persistent pain. The result is a trip to the doctor. Since muscle imbalances are the most common cause of misalignment, massage therapy is clearly the most effective form of treatment.

In this fast-paced four hour class, you will learn all about postural distortions from the serious (Scoliosis, Lordosis, Kyphosis) to the everyday distortions that cause subtle but lingering pain. You will learn about how and why massage therapy works to treat these conditions and how to educate physicians and patients about this as well.

A key part of this class will be learning to perform "body reading" an identification of postural misalignment in patients (or potential patients), with just a brief visual scan. The class will be broken up into small groups where participants, at their option, can be evaluated for misalignments themselves.

In this class students will:

  • Learn primary goals of medical massage including unconstrict muscle, be mindful of fascia and initiate diffusion;
     
  • Understand what connective tissue and fascia is and how dysfunction can lead to pain;
     
  • Discuss key dermatomes, learn about multiple types of pain;
     
  • Review anatomical planes and movements of the spine in relation to postural analysis;
     
  • Learn to view key points of the body, in various planes, from an anterior view, a posterior view and a lateral view;
     
  • Learn to differentiate between favored posture and deviations; ideal alignment and deviations and understand Upper and Lower Cross (Janda) Syndromes;
     
  • Leave the class with multiple “tools” to use in session analysis including SOAP notes, visual assessment, knowledge of biomechanics, palpatory skills, muscle and ROM testing, historical notes, etc.

 

This class is one of six classes that is required as core curriculum in our Medical Massage Practitioner Program. This class is part of our Masters Level Series. Discounted pricing is available when enrolling in a series of classes including the Posture / Upper Extremity Series.

HOW TO ENROLL

You may enroll in courses online by selecting the date and location of the class(es) you wish to take and click on the "Enroll Now" button below to place item(s) in your shopping cart. All online payments are processed through a secured server. If you wish to enroll over the phone or if you have any additional questions, please contact us at #800-201-2247.

 

YOU ARE PROTECTED!

If you enroll in a class and for some reason you are unable to make it, don't worry, you are covered. If you cancel more than 30 days prior to the start of the class, you can get a refund of your tuition. If you cancel less than 30 days prior to the scheduled class, you will still receive a credit to take the same class at a later time. You can also take a different class at a different location. Please see our cancellation policy for more details. 

 

DIGITAL FORMAT

All course materials will be provided in a digital format. About a week prior to your class, you will receive an email with credentials to log in to your student portal. You will be able to check in to your course online, view, download, or print your manual prior to the time of class, submit your course evaluation and download your Certificate of Completion, right from your portal page! Even after your class is over you will still have access to your course materials. Please have an internet-enabled device with you at the time of class. It's a super and convenient process.

CLASS SIZES

All of our classes have minimum and maximum enrollments that can be accepted. If a class is getting close to being full, we may close online enrollment. If a class is closed online, you may still call us at #800-201-2247 to see if there are any additional spaces or to go on a waiting list. If you want to go, let us know!  On rare occasions, we do not meet the minimum number of enrollees or an unexpected situation occurs and we need to cancel or reschedule a class. Please confirm that your class will be going forward prior to making any non-refundable travel arrangements. 

STAYING OVERNIGHT?

Aside from special events such as Success School and Education Vacations, we do not typically arrange sleeping rooms at our host hotels for weekend classes. If a room rate is not specifically noted in the class description below, please check your favorite discount travel website (hotels.com, trivago.com, expedia.com, tripadvisor.com, etc.) to see if better rates are available at the host hotel. Oftentimes the rates on travel websites are lower than what we are able to negotiate and our room block rates, if available, are subject to expiration. If a class location is not already listed, it will be added to this page as soon as it has been finalized. Enrolled students will receive an email reminder one week prior to the class with the location.
