How to Throw a Massage Party is a class which teaches massage therapists the "nuts and bolts" of holding a massage function in someone else's home. Massage therapists often struggle with generating clients. With this idea, this dilemma is solved, as the host provides the venue for the event, the food and beverage for the event, and even provides the clients, as the clients are the host's invited guests! The preferred modality to be utilized during this event is chair massage, although table massage may be substituted.
What you will learn:
We introduce and explain the concept of massage parties, and then give them some tips as to how to find hosts for this event. Initial hosts are usually friends, family and clients. Later, hosts come right from previous event guest lists.
You will learn and practice techniques that can be performed at the event with an emphasis on techniques that:
1. Don't involve oil or lotion
2. Can be performed without a massage table
3. Can be performed fully clothed.
Special emphasis is given to techniques that the event guests can perform on each other, safely and effectively.
We will also demonstrate and practice with massage tools that massage therapists can use to protect their bodies from overuse, or, alternatively, that their clients can use on themselves and others. Multiple samples of these items are brought to each event, so each student can practice with them
We provide our students with a timeline they can use when presenting at these events, go over some hostess incentives, and learn some ways they can get the guests to commit to hosting a future event themselves.
Note: Our classes are quite popular, but this class is the most popular we teach, by far. Massage therapists often struggle with the isolation that is present in the typical massage practice. Combining massage with a social event (particularly one in which the costs of that event are borne by the host) is a most welcome change for therapists. The use of tools to provide massage without undue body strain is also much appreciated. Our evaluations for this class are through the proof.
