Fundamentals of Sports Massage
Course Description:
This course teaches students how to work with tissues of the body to enhance performance in exercise or sporting events. Students will learn the different approaches to sports massage, standard forms of flexibility training, methods to give to the client as self-care to enhance everyday life, and how to evaluate basic anatomical or physiological problems limiting an athlete's ability.
Learning Objectives Upon Completing this Class:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Define sports massage, and its subcategories of event, maintenance, & treatment massage
2. Describe how sports massage differs from other styles of massage
3. List the indications and contraindications of sports massage
4. List the goals, and could perform an effective pre-event, inter-event, & post-event massage
5. List the goals, and could perform an effective maintenance massage
