Description
Advanced Thai Massage
Traditional Thai Massage is a dynamic, full-body therapy that combines elements of yoga, acupressure, and meditation. Rooted in a 2,500-year-old healing tradition, it offers a unique and powerful approach to wellness. Unlike Swedish-style massage, Traditional Thai techniques are performed on a Thai mat (or an exercise mat) on the floor, allowing for deeper stretches and a more interactive experience.
This advanced-level workshop picks up where our Thai Massage class left off. It is designed for the experienced Thai Massage practitioner looking to deepen their practice through advanced postural assessments, complex sequencing and targeted therapeutic protocols. Students will move beyond basic techniques to master fluid, custom-designed sessions that address specific client pathologies and myofascial restrictions. This course focuses on integrating Thai bodywork into a more clinical setting, utilizing advanced stretching, deep tissue protocols, and precise clinical reasoning to enhance therapeutic outcomes and client retention.
Learning Outcomes:
Students will:
- Analyze clients’ complex postural patterns to identify their structural imbalances
that may be addressed using Thai bodywork. - Evaluate client contraindications and precautions specific to advanced Thai
protocols. - Interpret myofascial restrictions through palpation and range-of-motion (ROM)
testing to guide session planning. - Formulate a customized treatment strategy that addresses a client’s specific
chief complaint (e.g., chronic low back pain or shoulder restriction). - Demonstrate mastery of advanced leverages and massage techniques to
achieve deeper tissue penetration without increasing practitioner strain. - Execute complex transitions between sequences to maintain consistent “flow”
throughout the session. - Perform postural assessment combining Thai medicine principles and Western
principles of anatomy and assessment. - Learn at least 5 dry massage techniques that include compression, stretching
and traction specific for Sen line and trigger point application. - Integrate rocking techniques into static holds to enhance client relaxation and
tissue release. - Adapt traditional Thai Yoga massage protocols for seamless inclusion into a
standard table-based massage session. - Modify standard Thai postures to accommodate varying client body types,
flexibility levels, and physical limitations. - Utilize advanced Sen line theory to support specific orthopedic or muscular
therapeutic outcomes. - Design a custom bodywork session that prioritizes the client’s specific clinical
needs over a generic full-body routine. - Document session goals, outcomes and client progress using postural
assessments and proper clinical terminology suitable for medical or chiropractic
referral contexts. - Articulate the physiological benefits of Advanced Thai Massage to potential
clients or medical partners using professional language. - Refine body mechanics to demonstrate long-term career sustainability and
physical longevity while performing high-intensity techniques.
