Foundations of Reflexology

Foundations of Reflexology

urse Description:

Reflexology is a type of massage that works by applying varying amounts of pressure to specific points on the body with the intention of affecting organs and systems of the body associated with those areas or zones. Reflexology aims to keep the energy flowing through the body and may help to calm the central nervous system and promote relaxation. A thorough Reflexology treatment will leave the client with a heightened state of well-being while feeling deeply relaxed and stress-free. Once exposed to Reflexology, many clients prefer regular treatments to Swedish Massage and will enjoy including reflexology treatments in other services.

After completing this workshop, you will be able to immediately add this in-demand therapy to your treatment menu. Whether you work at a spa, a medical clinic or with private clients, you will benefit from having the skills to provide reflexology treatments as a stand-alone service or as part of other treatments. Because this is a clothing-on treatment you are less limited as to where you can perform this service and it is a good way for someone who has never had a Swedish massage to "get their foot in the door."

Learning Objectives Upon Completing this Class:

The student will learn:

  • Effective interview methods with appropriate documentation for a thorough client history.
  • Contraindications to the application of Foot Reflexology.
  • Anatomy and physiology of the foot and lower leg.
  • Rehabilitative foot exercises and self-care exercises for the therapist.
  • Zone and Reflex theory and the relationship of the reflex point on the feet to the health of the endocrine and organ systems.
  • Reflexes to work for particular health problems in all the different systems of the body.
  • Learn how to use hydrotherapy in treatments.
  • Practice effective communication during the session to enhance the client's well-being.
  • A complete treatment protocol with foot and body mapping will enable you to treat the entire body effectively. You will both give and receive this treatment!

  • Upon completion of this course, the LMT will feel confident in providing a complete Foot Reflexology treatment to clients.

Prerequisite: All of our classes are intended to serve as continuing education for massage therapists. All students must be licensed, certified, authorized, or otherwise credentialed to provide hands-on, manual therapy services in the state where they practice. All of our classes are approved by NCBTMB for CE hours. Most states accept NCBTMB hours. Some states may have different requirements or definitions of what is considered to be within the "Scope of Practice" for a massage therapist. If in doubt, please check with your state's Board of Massage. In some instances, advanced-level courses may have additional prerequisites that will be noted in the course description.

All of our classes have minimum and maximum enrollments that can be accepted. If a class is getting close to being full, we may close online enrollment. If a class is closed online, you may still call us at #800-201-2247 to see if there are any additional spaces or to go on a waiting list. If you want to go, let us know!  On rare occasions, we do not meet the minimum number of enrollees or an unexpected situation occurs and we need to cancel or reschedule a class. Please confirm that your class will be going forward prior to making any non-refundable travel arrangements.

Aside from special events such as Success School and Education Vacations, we do not typically arrange sleeping rooms at our host hotels for weekend classes. If a room rate is not specifically noted in the class description below, please check your favorite discount travel website (,,,, etc.) to see if better rates are available at the host hotel. Oftentimes the rates on travel websites are lower than what we are able to negotiate and our room block rates, if available, are subject to expiration. If a class location is not already listed, it will be added to this page as soon as it has been finalized. Enrolled students will receive an email reminder one week prior to the class with the location.
